Things are not adding up and everything seems to be hitting rock bottom?  Your partner seemed resentful the last time you both had a discussion. Normally after some time, they do come around, but let’s imagine they don’t and you come back home to find out that they had moved out and left you with a note of divorce.

Do you think this could ever happen to you?

We certainly hope not. Although it is not uncommon for couples to fight and make up, make sure you don’t ignore your relationship issues.

What are then  the reasons for divorce?

Infidelity, lack of communication, financial troubles, sparing sessions of sex and intimacy are some of the common reasons for divorce.”

Let’s look at 5 common reasons for divorce.

1. Lack of communication

“Communication is crucial in marriage and not being able to communicate effectively quickly leads to resentment and frustration for both, impacting all aspects of a marriage.”

Good communication is the foundation of a strong marriage. Not talking to each other or yelling at each other are both unhealthy methods of communication that needs to be eliminated in your marriage. Poor communication is one of the major reasons for divorce.

Practice mindful communication. Chance can be hard, but it is worth it.

2. Constant arguing

“From bickering about chores to arguing about the kids; incessant arguing kills many relationships.”

Couples who have the same argument over and over again do so because they feel they are not appreciated. Many find it difficult to see their partner’s point of view. This leads to a lot of arguments without reaching an agreement.  This can lead to divorce.

3. Weight gain

“It may seem awfully superficial or unfair, but weight gain is one of the most common reasons for divorce.”

This may look strange, but weight gain is another big reason for divorce.  A significant amount of weight gain can cause a spouse to find the other unattractive. This may lead to issues with intimacy, which is a big issue and can lead to a divorce.

4. Unrealistic expectations

“It’s easy to go into a marriage with lofty expectations; expecting your spouse and the marriage to live up to your image of what they should be.”

Unmet expectation can put a strain in a relationship. This puts a strain on your spouse and keeps them on their toes trying to meet expectations they are not even aware of. Wrong expectation setting can become one of the reasons for divorce.

5. Lack of equality

Lack of equality is another divorce marker.

“When one partner feels that they take on more responsibility in the marriage, it can alter their view of the other person and lead to resentment.”

Resentment often grows to become one of the reasons for divorce, in fact, it is a leading cause of divorce.

Every couple must negotiate through their unique set of challenges, and find their own way of living together as two equals who enjoy a respectful, harmonious and joyful relationship.
