Five Self-Care Tips For Busy Moms


When you become a mum, you suddenly have to keep up with a lot of activities at the same time. (busy moms) It could be household chores, kid school events, or office work which leaves you with little or no room for personal time. Consequently, you lose track of when you had a personal time until you can’t even remember when last you had one.

It may not seem like much, but continually dismissing personal needs can have a significant effect on your overall health with time. It can cause fatigue, stress, irritability, and you are susceptible to a full-blown burnout. To save yourself all these stress and save your health, make sure you create time for yourself!

By taking good care of yourself (busy moms), you will not only meet your personal needs but also be healthier and happier to take care of your family. 

Don’t know how to start? Below are five self-care strategies you can quickly dive into immediately:

  • Add exercise to your daily routine: Maintaining your regular workout routine can be tricky for busy mums. One way to solve this issue is to choose more outdoor activities that can be done with your kids to stay mentally and physically active. For instance, you can opt to cycle and swim with the kids. Simple exercises like squat jumps, crunches and jumping jacks can help you keep fit and stay energized. Just remember that consistency is vital. 
  • Take advantage of the early morning: The easiest way to make sure that you have your ‘me’ time is to start very early in the morning. Go for an early jog, read a book, have DIY massage therapy, or practise meditation. You can try self-care apps like Colorfy, Headspace, 365, Gratitude and Happy Not Perfect.
  • You can also consider micro self-care techniques: Let’s be real moms; it is not workable to go gazing at the sky for hours or soaking in the bathtub sipping champagne for hours when you have a lot of things to do. The trick is to squeeze in personal time in brief intervals during your jam-packed routine. For instance, listen to a podcast or your favourite music while commuting, read a book before going to bed or make your favourite dish on the weekend. 
  • Invest time in your health: Let’s be honest with ourselves, shall we? When was the last time you went for a full-body check-up? Know that your general health and overall wellbeing are also equally important as that of your family members. So take time out to schedule dental exams, flu shots, and annual check-ups. Also, it would help if you were mindful of what you take into your body. 


  • Eat more veggies, nuts, fresh fruits, lean meats and grains. Reduce caffeine intake and drink a lot of water.
  • Prioritize sleep. Getting enough sleep is an essential aspect of self-care practice. It reduces stress, boosts memory, strengthens the immune system and improves cardiovascular health. Meanwhile, regular lack of sleep may impair cognitive function and also put you at risk of having heart disease or diabetes. 

Also, set realistic goals and assess your priorities. Also, don’t be afraid to ask for help whenever you need it, from your parents, spouse, or friend.
